Here at Koshin Bitumen, we have a range of products certified by the Kenya Ministry of Roads and Public Works, that are used to solve various problems that affect our roads and building of new roads. We provide raw bitumen grade 80/100, cutback bitumen and cationic emulsion bituminous products. In close collaboration with our customers, we develop products for use in a number of applications that fill important roles in their products and processes. Long-lasting bituminous products that create sustainable value.
Generally are divided into three groups depending on their volatility of the solvent added: Slow Curing often called "road oils", Medium Curing - a blend of Bitumen with lighter hydrocarbons and Rapid Curing. Extensively in sprayed sealing applications, in construction, road construction, road insulation, asphalting of streets, or roof insulation.
Functionally divided into different types and grades according to production processes, physical tests such as penetration test, viscosity test, flash point test, solubility test, softening point test, gravity test and other items.
We produce good quality cutback bitumen like MC 30, MC 70 and MC 3000 based on kinematic viscosity.
Bitumen emulsion is a mixture of fine droplets of bitumen and water. But as it is bitumen a predominantly petroleum product it does not mix with water and as it is sticky in nature, hence it gets disintegrated into fine droplets. For it to work an emulsifier is used. Emulsifier is a surface-active agent, that keeps the bitumen in its fine droplet state by disallowing it to mix with other droplets. The primary objective of emulsifying bitumen is to obtain a product that can be used without the heating normally required when using cutbacks and paving grade bitumen.
